My second movie is about Highland Park Senior High School Exchange Student. The whole line of this movie is to introduce all the HPSH exchange students and to get to know all the school's citizen opinion and impression about them , and im glad the movie turned out good and the reaction to the movie are mostly positive.
but it doesnt mean that i dont want to changes or adding some more things to make the movie way better.
There are some critique that i want to say about my movie. First of all , i had lack of story idea, because i found out the theme is so general and its all just about interview, without showing any point of stories that people could follow, and even though its all are interviewed scenes , at least all of them are not talking head. The sounds in some scenes arent sounds clear enough , or i would say sort of buzzing, because i notice some of footages are taken in a crowded place like in cafetaria and achool backyard.
Another thing , the background songs are not stable or get along with the interview, sometimes the songs covered all the interview talk, in the editing process i already try to make it balance and kept re-play it again , but when i already convert it to another media, it turned like that, which i suposse maybe it was the effect of the converting.
the last thing that i notice as my weakness of my movie is less of good transition effect, i kept using the "fade" effect on each scene , and it sorta made the movie flowness seiems static. From all of this , now i learn how to be more specific and careful to make another movie, and pursue my self to getting better and also improve my skills.
Documentary Film a movie that attempts, in some way, to document reality that happening in life. For me , documentary movie should be truthful and objective, without adding or cutting the original substance in it, and in the end let the audience respond the movie in their perspective.
The process of documentary film making is not instant, there are lots of preproduction stage to finished up the movie, in order to produced good quality of movie which provide accurate and reliable information. There are several preproduction mode that we should do before jump to the production of the movie,
First, planned up the story outline or decided theme for the movie, specifically. And it called as film proposal. its really important because its focusing you on the right track of the storyline without confusing or biased the story. Planned all out the people that you want to interview , or decided when and how you going to gather your information. Pick some possibilities track for background music to support your film, and make sure it matching and similar with your story. After all planned up, then you can going out and gather the footage, and thats called as production stage. In order to make the movie interesting to watch and go with the flow, make sure you adding some shooting technique in your footage, because good footage is one of the important element in of the movie. That’s the walkthrough of the preproduction mode.
The criteria for good movie is relative. But in my point of view, as films audience and also beginner film making , a good movie should be approachable, easy to follow and remarkable after the audience watched it, because the goal of producing a movie is to be watch, In that case, without losing the film maker idealism in the making of the movie.
after all, a good movie should satisfy both sides, the film maker itself and definitely the audience.
After all the production stage accomplished, then there is post-production stage, and that are editing and finishing.
Typically, the post-production phase of creating a film takes longer than the actual shooting of the film, and can take longer time.Editing take a lot of work and concentration so we should really careful with every detail that we work on. Editing consist of footage arrangement, cutting scene and audio sounds, putting music background, recording back sounds (narrative) and also apply the visual or audio effects. one thing to make your movie seems smooth and flows is to adding transition effect on every scene transition . Finishing is the final step of production stage , you need to do sounds check , to make sure the volume level abstain, re-play the movie and re-editing to polish the movie, after that you save your movie, and convert it to the type of media that you like.
Its really important to have visual evidence in the movie, which it means the real or original footage , to support the whole movie.
the last thing to do to is making film statement to explain the movie and the whole process when you made it and also the purpose why you made it.
“Highland Park Senior High School Exhange Students’’ is the title of my second movie. I would say this second movie is more likely a personal project for me, because I made it in purpose as a memory of my experience in US. The main idea of the movie is about students and teachers opinion about exchange students. Even the main story is really simple, but I made each scene of the movie looks different , with applying different kinds of camera angle skill, and it scripted. While each of the exchange students introducing themselves, i tried to applied at least one different skill to each of them, like panning, zoom in/out, long shot, full shot , mid shot and a lot of close up for the interviews. It took almost 2 weeks to gather the materials together, include the editing process.
First of all, i want to say i'm so glad that my first movie with johanna turned out so good , its beyond my expectation , even i realized its still far from good, but johanna and i satisfied with our hard work that we put in the movie and all the response that we got. I want to say thank you to mrs.canelake and my classmates for all the motivating critics , it was really helped us to know our deficiency so we knew what should be improved for our second movie.
New quarter, New Movie.
Only for this last quarter, i'm going to make my own movie, without partnering with johanna.
We decided to do separate movie because both of us wants to exploring our own idea, which i think its a good thing, so then johanna and i can train our individual skill as a beginner film maker.
Talk about my second movie, i will make a movie about a short summary about people around me, all people that responsible to made my year in USA really great, i want to have movie that i can bring home , as something that bring out good memory , so then i never forget all the people that means a lot for me.
i realize, if i use this theme as my movie, its not really interesting for the crowds to watch,because this is kind of movie for personal need, but i will try to packaging it as something that approachable to watch.
I will record some of my close friends, teachers and absolutely my host family. the footage is going to be an interview, photos slide and probably short clips about them. i will try to make the transition from one scene to another scene smoother than my last movie with johanna, which really lack of good transition.
afterall, i will do my best for my second movie and hope it turn as good as the first movie, or even better.

Johanna and I change our mind to make documentary about exchange student because we have another movie idea that we thought gonna be more interesting to filmed for our 1st movie. And its about Highland Park Dance Team Pep Fest Dance.
The story line is about the whole process of dance practice until pep fest performance. one thing that makes this even more interesting, we have boys dancer too, and they gonna dance with all the girls dancer. we gonna have interview from the dance advisor, coach , dancers (both boys and girls) and also featured with the performance clips in each different scene, followed by variety dance songs. we predict this movie is going to be fresh and spiritfull documentary movie.
The footage took place in different area in highland park senior highschool. Most of the scene is interview , but we make it with voice over, so its not just talking head all the time.
This week we are going to start our own movie. It will be 3 to 5 minutes long and I will work with my pal johanna, who is an exchange student from Germany. This is our idea for the film:
We are a little bit concerned about getting the permission to film all of the classes and if all the exchange students can/want to participate in the movie. But I think it will be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to start filming.
